An exhibition presented by Ffotogallery,
the national development agency for photography in Wales

Here We Are – Dyma Ni features a selection of work by established and emergent photographic artists based in Cardiff, a city which is twinned with Stuttgart. Whether working in a traditional or new genre documentary style, or constructing imaginary landscapes, the artists' work reflects the contemporary experience of living and working in a European city undergoing major transformation.

Cardiff is an exciting, diverse and welcoming city, combining a strong international outlook with a passionate local heart. However, for the last twenty five years the city and its rural hinterland in The Valleys have been in a process of regeneration following the decline of ‘heavy’ industries such as coal mining and steel manufacture and those associated with Cardiff's history as a port city. This process has created new opportunities for residents and incomers, but also a disruption of traditional ways of life, community upheaval and dramatic changes to the social and physical fabric of Cardiff and its surrounding area.

From its inception in 1978, Ffotogallery has played a pivotal role in developing a contemporary photographic culture in Wales through the presentation of a wide range of new work in exhibitions and publications and pioneering education and outreach work that offers opportunities for creative participation for a wide cross-section of the community. Ffotogallery has an active policy of commissioning new work which, in particular, provides a vital support system to photographers in Wales, forms an ongoing record of culture in Wales, and reflects prevailing attitudes and developments in photography more generally.
